The 67 lore, Google’s Easter Egg and what it does

If you type 67 into your google search bar, a fun, new thing happens- your screen shakes.

Google has kept a long and steady tradition of making their search page interactive, fun, and culturally informative and it now pays a little tribute to the 67 meme which has been an inside joke on the internet for a long while now.

The 67 screen motion mirrors the gesture that has always been associated with the meme. The shaking of the screen mimics weighing two objects, an effect compatible with desktops and mobiles.

Rapper skrilla released a song “Doot Doot”, made popular by NBA player LaMelo Ball who is coincidentally 6 feet 7 inches in height and it turned into internet slang, essentially what the kids refer to as “brainrot.”

Since then, the meme has gotten so popular it has even featured in a South Park episode and in various basketball games.

“Brainrot”, announced as the Oxford dictionary word of the year for 2024, a word that truly encapsulates the era of digital overstimulation and overconsumption of mass media to the point where thinking abilities have started deteriorating.

It’s a largely nonsensical term, somewhat of a running inside joke. It acts more like a reference to nothing as decided by the young users of the internet.
