Sreenivasan : Renowned Malayalam actor- filmmaker dies at 69.

Sreenivasan was a renowned Indian actor, screenwriter, director, and producer who worked predominantly in Malayalam cinema.

He passed away on 20 December 2025 in Thrippunithara, Kochi, after suffering from prolonged illness.

He was sixty nine years old at the time of his death.

Sreenivasan was born on 6 April 1956 in Patyam near Thalassery in Kannur district of Kerala.He grew up with one sister and two brothers in a modest household.His father worked as a school teacher, and his mother managed the household as a homemaker.

He completed his schooling at Kuthuparamba Middle School and Government High School, Kadirur.He later earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from PRNSS College, Mattanur.

In 1977, he pursued formal training at the Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu.

He made his acting debut in P A Backer’s film Manimuzhakkam in 1976.His first lead role came through the film Sanghaganam released in 1979.

He began his screenwriting career with the film Odarythammava Aalariyam.Sreenivasan wrote and acted in popular films including Varavelpu, Gandhinagar Second Street, and Nadodikkattu.

As a director, he created memorable films like Vadakkunokkiyanthra and Chinthavisthayaya Shyamala.

His comedy films combined humor with strong social commentary and realistic characters.

He highlighted issues like middle class struggles and labour union politics through sharp satire.

His works during the 1980s and 1990s transformed storytelling in Malayalam cinema.

He brought depth and dignity to ordinary characters using engaging narratives.

Sreenivasan received two Kerala State Film Awards for Best Screenplay.He also won a National Film Award, Filmfare Awards South, and several state honors.

His death marked the end of an era in Mollywood cinema history.
