Yet Another Tragedy: On Noida Techie Death & Investigation
Noida techie’s death in a waterlogged underpass exposes civic negligence, delayed accountability, and the price citizens pay for official apathy.

The death of a young tech professional in Noida last week is being officially described as an accident, but anyone who has driven through the city during the monsoon knows that this was only a matter of time. His car slipped into a waterlogged underpass with no warning signs, no barricades, and no traffic diversion in place, turning an everyday commute into a fatal mistake. Complaints have been made before. Videos have circulated on social media. Residents have tagged officials and departments repeatedly. Nothing changed.
The Noida Authority CEO, M. Lokesh, has now been removed. A junior engineer has been dismissed. Notices have been issued to traffic and project officials. A Special Investigation Team has been formed and given five days to submit its report. For the family, there is no comfort in suspensions and transfers. What they needed was a road that was safe to drive on. What they got instead was silence until tragedy forced attention.

This was not an unpredictable natural disaster. It was the result of years of ignored maintenance, poor drainage planning, and infrastructure that was opened without preparing for something as routine as heavy rain. Noida continues to grow at a rapid pace. Offices rise, residential towers spread across the skyline, and new roads are laid every year. But the basics remain fragile.
Every monsoon, streets disappear under water, vehicles stall in the middle of intersections, and commuters take risks simply to get home on time. Removing one officer will not fix a system that only wakes up after someone dies. But perhaps this loss will finally push the authorities to treat public safety as more than an afterthought.
