Tilak’s availability for T20 World Cup is the biggest concern for team India. World Cup is beginning from 7th of February and India is facing USA on the same day. The team management will closely monitor his rehabilitation process over the next few weeks

Possible Replacements

If the BCCI goes for a replacement at No. 3, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Riyan Parag are seen as reliable options, both having experience in pressure situations . The board is unlikely to consider Shubman Gill for the role, as his recent form in the format has not been convincing.

Road Ahead

With a recovery period of three to four weeks, Tilak Varma’s return will depend heavily on how well he responds post-surgery. A swift rehabilitation could allow him to feature in the later stages of the New Zealand series, which begins on January 21, or be fully fit in time for the T20 World Cup 2026.
