Elon Musk-led Tesla will open its first showroom in India on July 15, with Mumbai chosen because the debut location, Reuters reported. The launch marks Tesla’s entry into India’s fast-growing electrical car market and comes as the corporate steps up efforts to determine a presence on the planet’s third-largest automotive market.
In March, Tesla reportedly finalised a lease settlement for the Mumbai showroom, setting the stage for its growth plans in India.
Citing a Bloomberg report from final month, the primary Tesla automobiles shipped to India are Mannequin Y rear-wheel drive SUVs constructed on the firm’s Shanghai manufacturing facility. As per the report, Tesla has imported 5 Mannequin Y items to Mumbai from its Shanghai plant. Every car is valued at round Rs. 2.77 million ($31,988). The imports attracted over Rs. 2.1 million in duties per car, reflecting India’s 70% import tariff on totally constructed electrical vehicles priced under $40,000, together with further levies.
A number of months again, the EV maker ramped up hiring for its India operations, with plans for an additional showroom within the Delhi-NCR area.
