Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, the legends of Indian cricket got felicitate in Vadodara

ODI legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma got felicitated by Baroda Cricket Association on Sunday, January 11. The unique manner of the celebration left the fans in splits.

Over a decade Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli was backbone of the Indian Team, as in there presence the the Kotambi Stadium, was hosting its first men’s ODI match, the two legends were given flower bouquets at the mid-innings break as a mark of respect. During India’s 1st ODI match against New Zealand on Sunday, January 11.

 In the presence of ICC president Jay Shah and BCCI head Mithun Manhas, the Baroda Cricket Association arranged a cupboard with life-size stickers of Rohit and Kohli. The little ceremony caught the attention of cricket fans because of the hilarious manner in which it was carried out. The duo were put inside the cupboard and brought out when their names were called during the mid-innings break.

Centres like Kotambi do not get to host an ODI often, and it is possible that the organisers wanted to take their chance to show their respect to the legends who redefined ODI batting in the last decade.

After this celebration fans were left in splits and joked that it was an unboxing ceremony for Rohit and Kohli. The senior Indian duo also saw the joke in it and could not stop laughing while accepting the flower bouquets. They came out of the cupboard (closet) and signed their life-sized photos and seen playing with the flower bouquets they receive.

Meanwhile, India won the toss and choose to bowl first on the slow deck of Vadodara on Sunday. After struggling against a 100+ run opening partnership of Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls, India pulled managed to limit New Zealand to a score of 300/8 in 50 overs. In a game of swinging momentum, Daryl Mitchell batted exceedingly well and helped the Kiwis to a near par total on a sluggish pitch.

When Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill come to bat, stadium erupted with the chat of “Mumbai Cha Raja Rohit Sharma.” Rohit Sharma falls early to the Kyle Jamieson scoring 26 runs on 29 balls. Later Indian Skipper Shubman Gill 55 runs and Virat Kohli’s 93 runs and Shreyas Iyer’s 49 runs helps India to win the first match of the ODI series.
