Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap was recently accused of sexually harassing an actress 7 years back in 2013. The actress had filed a rape case against Anurag, for which he was questioned on Thursday for 8 hours in Versova police station by Mumbai police. The filmmaker had earlier refuted the claims by taking it to social media and had called the allegations baseless.
On Thursday, Anurag in his statement has denied all the allegations put against him and also provided proof that he wasn’t in India at the time of the incident. Filmmaker’s lawyer Priyanka Khimani in her statement has stated, “Mr. Anurag Kashyap has denied all wrongdoing in the matter and has provided his statement to the police. Mr. Kashyap has provided documentary proof of the fact that throughout August 2013 he was away in Sri Lanka in connection with the shooting of one of his films. Mr. Kashyap has categorically denied that any such alleged incident ever took place and also denied all allegations leveled against him.”
Lawyer Khimani in her statement further added that the allegations were made to vilify Anurag Kashyap and he demands strict action against the actress for misusing the criminal justice system and for hijacking the #MeToo movement. She mentioned that the filmmaker is distressed with the false and reckless allegations made against him that have caused pain to him and he intends to vigorously pursue legal remedies available to him.
The actress had filed a case against Anurag Kashyap, accusing him of rape, wrongful restrain, outraging the modesty of women, and wrongful confinement in 2013, at Versova Police station last week. The actress had opened up about the alleged incident in an interview with a Regional News Channel where she accused Anurag Kashyap of forcing himself on her in the year 2013.
